Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK)
The Ministers of Education, Higher Education and Research as well as Cultural Affairs of the different Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany work together in the Standing Conference (KMK). In doing so, the Länder assume responsibility for the state as a whole by way of self-coordination and ensure the necessary degree of common ground in education, science and cultural matters of supraregional importance. One key task is to guarantee the highest possible degree of mobility throughout Germany for pupils, students, teaching personnel and those working in the academic sector, and to contribute to equal living conditions throughout Germany. The Standing Conference is an important instrument for representing the common interests of the Länder in relation to the Federal Government, the European Union, the OECD and the United Nations. The Standing Conference holds plenary meetings four times a year.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. It produces high-quality, internationally comparable data and indicators, and develops key statistics that can be used to understand the economy and predict future trends. Its international surveys on education and skills provide benchmarks that help countries to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to participate fully in their economies and societies.
Education International (EI)
EI represents organisations of teachers and other education employees across the globe. It is the world’s largest federation of unions, representing 32 million education employees in around 400 organisations in 172 countries and territories. To ensure that the voice of the teaching profession is heard in the international arena, EI engages actively and constructively with all the major international organisations, including the OECD, UNESCO, the International Labour Organization, and the World Bank.
Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (GEW)
The Education and Science Union (Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft) is the union responsible for educational affairs in the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB). It is involved in Education International (EI) and GEW Chairwoman Marlis Tepe is also a Vice-President of EI. GEW represents the interests of more than 280,000 members in educational and socio-educational professions, in universities and research as well as in private educational institutions. Good working conditions and good education are two sides of the same coin for the GEW.
Verband Bildung und Erziehung (VBE)
The Association for Education (Verband Bildung und Erziehung) is a founding member of Education International (EI). As a member of ETUCE (European Trade Union Committee for Education), the VBE has a seat and vote in the European Social Dialogue on Education. As a trade union for education that is independent of any party politics, the VBE represents the interests of approx. 140,000 teachers– from kindergarten, primary level, lower and upper secondary level, teacher training – in all federal Länder. It advocates justice through education, a strengthening of the teaching profession, teacher training that is based on the profession, the recognition of the equality of teachers in all types of schools and the status of civil servant for all teachers.
Stiftung Mercator is a private foundation which fosters science and the humanities, education and international understanding. It specifically initiates, develops and funds projects and partner organisations in the thematic fields to which it is committed: it wants to strengthen Europe, improve integration through equal educational opportunities for everyone, drive forward the energy transition as a trigger for global climate change mitigation and firmly anchor cultural education in schools. Stiftung Mercator feels a strong sense of loyalty to the Ruhr region, the home of the founding family and the foundation’s headquarters.
Robert Bosch Stiftung
The Robert Bosch Foundation is one of the major foundations in Europe associated with a private company. It represents the philanthropic endeavors of Robert Bosch (1861–1942). To this end, the foundation invests approximately 70 million euros annually supporting approximately 800 of its own as well as third-party projects in the fields of international relations, education, society and culture, as well as health and science. In the field of education it is dedicated to quality development of schools and teaching.

In its three programme areas "Comprehending and Shaping the Economy", "Understanding Science" and "Strengthening Personal Development", it addresses learners directly, and reaches them indirectly through teachers and researchers.
Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft
Around 3,000 businesses, trade associations, foundations and private individuals have come together in the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft to jointly promote science and education. The Stifterverband safeguards the infrastructure for innovation – efficient universities, strong research institutions and a fruitful exchange between business and science – through funding programmes, analyses and recommendations for action. Together with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Stifterverband supports a quarter of a million young talents every year. What's more, it coordinates more than 610 foundations with total assets of 2.6 billion EUR.

The Vodafone Foundation Germany is one of the biggest company-related foundations in Germany and member of a global family of foundations.
